As part of their FCCLA Star Event project, Montgomery County Middle School seventh-grade students Chloe Conder and Emily Caldwell wanted to make sure that all of the animals get proper care.
So on Oct. 18 during a Montgomery County High School football game, Chloe and Emily teamed up to host a Miracle Minute event to raise money to donate supplies for the local animal shelters. They raised $416.13 that went to the Montgomery County shelter and the Happy Hearts animal shelter.
“I enjoyed that we raised money for animals that needed help in the shelters with their supplies,” Emily said. “Most animals get euthanized because they don’t have enough supplies or enough room for the animals.”
The reason that Chloe and Emily decided to help out animal shelters is simple.
“We heard that a lot of animal shelters are crowded without enough supplies to provide for the animals,” Emily said. “So we decided that it would be a good idea to raise money and materials for the animals in the shelters.”
Both Chloe and Emily are in their second year with the MCMS FCCLA group. Chloe played softball this fall and is currently playing basketball. Emily participates in cheerleading.
Last year, Chloe was a medal winner at the FCCLA State Leadership Conference after she teamed up with brother Jayden and Julia Elder to put together a chapter service display project called Healthy Skin Is In, which focused on melanoma and skin cancer awareness. They placed first.
“I love being the leader in my community,” Chloe said.
The seventh-graders enjoy working with their new FCCLA adviser, Becky Gilbert, after three months.
“She tries her best to make sure that we know what we’re doing,” said Emily, who plans to be a veterinarian in the future. “If we needed any help, she would help us out.”
