The Middletown Reunion will return for its 132nd year Saturday to not only bring fun to the Middletown community, but to raise money to make repairs for its community center that is more than 20 years old.
The event starts at 11 a.m. with a parade that will start on South Street and end at the community center on East Main Street. Afterwards, food will be served and activities will be held at the picnic grounds.
The theme for this year’s Middletown Reunion is “Raise The Roof.” Event officials are looking to raise $11,000 to cover the full cost of the roof replacement of the community center, which was built in 2004, as well as other expenses such as insurance and utilities.
“We had a follow-up meeting on Sept. 3 to review the 2024 picnic and plan things that needed to be addressed going forward,” said Caren Whitehead, who is one of the event’s organizers. “At that time, it was brought to our attention that the building was 20 years old and we would probably need to address the roof in the next couple of years. By our May 6 meeting, there were visible signs of water damage.”
Whitehead said last year’s reunion was a successful one. Its theme was “Keeping It Going.”
“We couldn’t have asked for better weather, which was a huge contributing factor,” Whitehead said. “The community came out to support the event. The Silent Auction debuted and was very well received.”
This year’s event will include a flower show that is sponsored by the New Montgomery Florist, grain wagon, cake walk, silent auction, mini-olympics, a kids pedal pull, a bingo-like game, a bounce house that is sponsored by the Middletown Meddlers and classic kids games such as the frog jump, turtle race, a three-legged race, candy scramble, penny scramble and sack race and they will be hosted by American Bank of Freedom.
“We’ve got a little bit of something for everyone,” Whitehead said.
A band called Sundown Shot will be performing at 6:30 p.m. It had a performance at the Old Settlers Picnic in New Florence on Aug. 2.
“Sundown Shot is a band composed of young men from what I would call the “Greater Middletown area,” who play classic rock - and play it well,” Whitehead said. “They performed last year and we are excited they will be back for 2025.”
The Middletown Reunion is held every year on the second Saturday of August.
