Maverick Van Horn, a Montgomery City resident, qualified for the National Pedal Pull in September after placing fourth in the Missouri State Fair Pedal Tractor Pull in the six-year-old boys category.
Maverick, who is 6, qualified for the state pull by turning in two full pulls. He later did another full pull and placed fourth in state competition after competing in a pull-off with five other participants.
Maverick placed first in the Montgomery County Fair and the Middletown Reunion in his weight category this summer. He has been participating in pedal pulls since he was 3 years old.
“He has always had a knack for it and has accumulated a nice collection of trophies,” said Tracy Van Horn, Maverick’s grandmother. “Maverick’s parents thought it would be fun to see how he would do in a state sanctioned event.”
Maverick is the son of Eric and Chelsey Van Horn. He will be a first-grade student this year at Montgomery City Elementary.
