Montgomery County ARPSA holds December meeting

The meeting was called to order by President Jackie Myhren at 11 a.m. on Dec. 11 at the Montgomery City Public Library by welcoming 12 members. Then, the flag was pledged. 

Minutes from the Sept. 23 meeting were passed out by Secretary Ruth Cutright. JoAnn Reagan made the motion to approve minutes as read. David Barker seconded the same. Motion passed. There was no treasurer’s report.

New business

President Jackie gave the list of nominated officers for 2026 to vote on: President Jackie Myhren, Vice President Jane Edwards, Secretary Ruth Cutright and Treasurer Kitty Hallock. JoAnn Reagan made the motion to accept the slate of officers. David Barker and Lisa Cunningham seconded the same. Motion passed.

The planning meeting for 2026 will be held at the Montgomery City Public Library at 10 a.m. on Jan. 27. Bring ideas of speakers, places to go or programs. A garage sale in April suggested as a fundraiser by JoAnn and seconded by Jane. Motion passed. Members should pay their local dues of $10 to Kitty.

Correspondence

Keri Rhodes, the Jonesburg Elementary School recipient of the $500 Missouri Retirement Teacher’s Fund grant who is teaching life skills to her students, sent a nice thank you for the grant as well as pictures of the children participating in the projects. Ruth has observed that they really had fun learning the skills.

Committees

Community Impact – Mary Masek said to figure all volunteer hours for the whole year, food items, money donated for good and other money donated. Anyone who needs a sheet should email Mary at mkmasek@yahoo.com as soon as possible and keep collecting aluminum tabs. 

Communications – Ruth gave scam info from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department. Be aware of money transfer applications such as Cash App, Venmo and Pay Pal as well as computers and phones.

Retirement – Lisa reported she will keep new retirees aware of joining the MRTA and what we do to help active teachers know what to plan for. Lisa is typing the program booklet. Contact her if there’s a change in address or any other information. 

Membership – JoAnn said to contact new and old retirees to join or rejoin MRTA.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:05 a.m. Members enjoyed a delicious lunch catered by Sugar and Spice Laura’s Delights. Then, they enjoyed making a craft, which was a cute gnome led by President Jackie.

The next regular meeting is on Feb. 24.
