Montgomery County ready for fair

The Montgomery County Fair is just around the corner. It will be held July 17-22. It will be an exciting week of fun for all ages.

I want to give a quick thank you to the people who make it all possible – the Montgomery County Fairboard. It is because of those individuals that the fair is possible. They do 100 percent of the planning, fundraising and executing of the fair week. You will see them running events, working in the fair office, working in the food stand and smoothing over any issues that come up. They do all of that without receiving a dime. It is not easy, but they certainly make it look like it is. If you see one of them, give them a thanks!

I would also like to mention the Junior Fair Board. The Junior Fair Board is composed of high school and college students who volunteer their time to help make the fair possible. They help the Senior Fair Board in the planning and executing of the fair. If you see one of them around, give them a thanks, too.

The fair week begins on Monday, July 17. By the afternoon, the fair will be full of 4H and FFA members checking in and weighing their livestock. Then, as everything settles down in the evening, head on over to the stage adjacent to the Grandstands for this year’s Little Mr. and Little Miss Contest, followed by the Montgomery County Fair Queen contest. The Little Mr. and Miss Contest will begin at 6 p.m. and the queens will follow. Also that day, the horse show is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Be sure to come back on Tuesday for wristband carnival rides, the parade, the super farmer contest and the Mickey Scott Band! The parade begins at 6 p.m., and the super farmer contest and the Mickey Scott Band will both begin at 8 p.m.

Wednesday is livestock day. The morning gets off to an early start with the poultry and rabbit shows beginning at 9 a.m. The goat and sheep shows begin at 3 p.m., followed by the steer and hog shows at 5 p.m. The inflatable zone will be open from 6 p.m.-10 p.m., so send your kids that way. The Mickey Scott Band will perform again later that night.

Thursday evening includes a fantastic carnival, the Junior Market Livestock auction, the Eastern Missouri Truck Pullers-Truck Pull and Go-Kart Racing. The carnival opens at 6 p.m. Everything else begins at 7 p.m.
On Friday night, be sure to stop by and see the Outlaw Truck and Tractor Pulling Association compete. Friday night also includes a Lew-E’s Comedy Circus show, the Dirty Bourbon Band, lots of games and events and the carnival.

On Saturday morning, the baby show begins at 8:30 a.m. For the kids who are out of diapers, the annual Agriland Competitions start at 10 a.m. Agriland will begin again at 1 p.m. For the parents, there is a cornhole tournament at 4 p.m. and the annual wing fest at 5 p.m. Also, the carnival opens at 5 p.m., the DLS Promotions Demolition Derby starts at 7 p.m. and the Rafter7P Bulls and Barrels Rodeo at 8 p.m. The fair will officially end at 1 a.m.

Fair passes are still available. If you need one, contact one of your local queen contestants.
