On February 20, deputies were patrolling in the area of Highway F when they observed a vehicle being driven by an individual they knew to have a revoked driving status. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and confirmed that the driver’s driving privileges were revoked. The driver was arrested, transported to the MC Jail and charged with driving while revoked.
Also on February 20, deputies were at a gas station in New Florence when they observed a vehicle belonging to a wanted subject parked at a gas pump. Deputies made contact with the driver and confirmed he had an active warrant out of Montgomery County for delivery of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding. The driver was arrested and transported to the MC Jail.
On February 21, deputies were advised of a stolen U-Haul reported to be traveling through Montgomery County. Deputies located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. During the investigation deputies learned that the subject had rented the U-Haul in Virginia for use within 15 miles of the rental location. The rental company declined to pursue charges but wanted the vehicle towed. Deputies had the vehicle towed and transported the occupants to the Hermann train station.
On February 24, at approximately 10:21 p.m., a Montgomery County deputy initiated a traffic stop at the Love’s Travel Stop in New Florence. Shortly after making contact the driver of motorcycle failed to yield and fled the scene, traveling eastbound on Interstate 70 from the 175-mile marker. Warren County Central Communications was notified of the inbound pursuit. Assisting agencies, including the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Warrenton Police Department and Warren County Sheriff’s Department, positioned themselves to assist. Due to construction reducing traffic to one lane near the 193-mile marker at Highway 47, deputies briefly lost sight of the motorcycle. Warren County and Wright City officers re-engaged the pursuit near the 198-mile marker. The motorcycle crossed a grassy median access point and doubled back westbound on Veterans Memorial Parkway. Deputies attempted a traffic break; however, the driver failed to stop at a major intersection and continued fleeing.
The motorcycle then left the roadway, traveled through a vacant city park and re-entered Veterans Memorial Parkway before returning to Interstate 70 eastbound. Units reported the motorcycle began experiencing mechanical issues, producing a loud grinding noise and significantly reducing speed. As the pursuit entered St. Charles County, the motorcycle slowed to approximately 30–40 mph due to apparent mechanical failure. The driver maneuvered through the protected center median, abandoned the motorcycle and fled on foot across westbound Interstate 70 and the North Service Road. A foot pursuit ensued for approximately 300 yards north of the interstate. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. The suspect, a 31 year old man from St. Clair, is currently being held at the MC Jail on the following charges: aggravated fleeing-felony, driving while revoked/suspended-felony, failure to register a motor vehicle, speeding (26 or more miles over) and no insurance. Additional charges are being sought by other agencies for offenses committed in their jurisdictions.
