When she was a little girl, Ashley Jo Cox became passionate about photography.

“I had a Barbie camera that had a little film inside of it,” the Montgomery City resident said. “That was the first camera I ever had. Then, I upgraded to a 35 mm Nikon camera. I just enjoyed taking photos.”

Now, Cox is the owner of a new photography studio called Colors Of You Photography, which is located at 898 S. Sturgeon in Montgomery City, next to Domino’s. It shares the same building with Wicked Stickers, a designing business that is owned by Cox’s husband, Mike.

“It’s going really well,” Cox said. “I’ve gotten a lot of feedback. I’ve gotten a lot of love from the community. I got to meet a lot of people.”

Recently, Cox took numerous pictures of people dressing up in Halloween costumes near Graham Cave State Park in Danville.

“I like making people happy,” Cox said. “It was so cold. It started raining. We were all laughing and having such a good time. I like to not only be a professional person, but build a connection with my clients and help them be more comfortable.”

Cox, who got married on Oct. 7, said the main goal for her business is to make photo sessions affordable for Montgomery County residents.

“For my wedding, I got into a situation of looking for a photographer for the first time while I was on a budget and not being able to find one that was affordable,” Cox said. “Being in a small community where everyone is giving and helping, I wanted to be able to provide a service that you can afford the quality of that you might go somewhere else and pay higher for it.”
