When the Hometown Veterinary Clinic in Jonesburg opened on Jan. 16, it gave Montgomery County residents an opportunity to take their pets for quality care at an affordable price.

“We are a business, and we would like to be successful,” said Daniel Tappmeyer, one of the doctors. “But as a family-owned business, our approach is a little different. We would rather look out for our clients and save them money when we can, and keep them coming back as clients for the next 30 years.”

The business is located at 3 State Highway E, next to I-70. Hometown Veterinary Clinic also has a location in Hermann. Tappmeyer said a second location in Jonesburg was needed so clients don’t have to drive long distances to get care for their pets.

“We always knew we had clients coming from Montgomery and Warren counties being just across the river in Hermann, but we were surprised that almost a third of our clients were driving from the zip codes up along the interstate, from New Florence and Montgomery to Warrenton and Wright City and even on into Wentzville,” Tappmeyer said. “We decided on Jonesburg as it was right smack dab in the middle of where our clients were coming from, and it really has been a great decision for us. The city of Jonesburg has been very easy to work with as we went through the design and construction process, and the clients we are seeing really appreciate having veterinary care closer to their home.”

Construction on the building began during the summer. It ended in early January and phone lines were open on Jan. 10.

“When we started this project, we had a discussion about whether we should put up a sign to advertise that we were coming soon,” Tappmeyer said. “We aren’t really that kind of people, so we decided to just keep things quiet initially. Turns out that was the best advertising we could have had. For the past year everywhere we went, we were getting asked when we were going to be open.”

Tappmeyer said one of the best things about the new location is staff members can incorporate a mobile unit into the building.

“Our mobile unit is a fully stocked veterinary clinic on wheels we take around to people’s houses,” Tappmeyer said. “This service has been greatly received by clients who either have mobility issues themselves, or have older pets who don’t travel well. It has also been a hit with people with multiple pets. Once you hit more than three pets, trips to the vet become a challenge. You either have to make multiple trips with each pet or you have one massive vet appointment which is pure chaos as you work through everyone’s check up and needs. With this service we bring the mobile vet clinic to you and each pet gets brought in and given their individual exam and treatment and it makes the whole process go much smoother. Some pets with anxiety about coming to the vet do much better when we come to them.”
