Plans set for Hometown Christmas

Montgomery County residents will be getting into the Christmas spirit on Dec. 13-15 as Hometown Christmas comes back for another year in Montgomery City.

The annual event will have a light display at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, a visit from Santa Claus and a festive Friday night in downtown Montgomery City with many activities. It is sponsored by the Montgomery City Area Chamber of Commerce.

A year ago, Hometown Christmas Friday Night was held for three hours, attracting many people to the business section of Montgomery City. It was the first time in years that Hometown Christmas was held on a Friday night at downtown Montgomery City.

The first day of Hometown Christmas will run from 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Multiple businesses in the business section of Montgomery City will be open during that time frame. The Montgomery County Arts Council will have a Hometown Christmas display that will include a birdhouse village with wooden birdhouses and paper house ornaments. The Montgomery Hardware Store will serve hot dogs, will have a live singer and will have a face painting station for the children. The Montgomery City Public Library will have a book sale from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. BelleEve Boutique will serve hot dogs and chili. Glitterville, a store full with Christmas items, will also be open. A trolley will be available to take patrons from location to location.
A light display will be held at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds from 6 p.m. each day at the three-day Hometown Christmas event. There will also be a live nativity display at the fairgrounds on Dec. 14 and 15.

The Chamber purchased a tent for the Hometown Christmas event and it will be located on Third Street. Third Street will be blocked off between Highway 161 and Allen Street on the first and second days of the event. Santa Claus will make a visit at the tent from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Dec. 15. Children will get a chance to have their picture taken and receive a gift.

Also during Hometown Christmas, there will be tablescapes and a Santa’s workshop at the new True Title Company building at 227 North Sturgeon. There will be a tree display at the residence of Shannon Brock at 300 North Sturgeon. MCPL will have its second day of the book sale on Dec. 14 from 9 a.m.-noon.
