Property tax deadline approaches for county residents

Posted

As the year 2025 comes down to its final three weeks, Montgomery County residents are being reminded of the deadline of paying personal property taxes.

The final day to pay property taxes is Dec. 31, which is on a Wednesday. Residents who are delinquent on paying property taxes will have their bill go up 11 percent – two percent interest and nine percent penalty.

Residents can pay online at www.mcmo.us or by phone at 833-969-1220. Convenience fees will apply and receipts will be mailed the next business day.

Residents can drop off their payment at the drop box after business hours at the collector’s office, located at 310 Salisbury. The office will be open for business on New Year’s Eve.

“You want to be sure to use one of our payment options before the end of the year,” Montgomery County Collector Anita Sullivan said. “We have a drop box if you don’t trust the post office. It’s available 24/7 at the annex building. We ask that you don’t put cash in the drop box. If you put a check or money order in the drop box, then we will process your receipt and send it back to you.”

Sullivan has been the county’s collector since 2003. One of her responsibilities is collecting current and delinquent property taxes for the county and various political subdivisions within the county which have approved property tax levies.

Sullivan said the collector’s office has been receiving property tax payments.

“I just turned over the collections for the month of November,” she said. “I turned over $2.4 million dollars to the treasurer. Two million is our goal, so with the increase in taxes this year, we’re at $2.4 for the month of November. By the time Dec/ember is over, we’ll collect another $15 million plus.”

The annex building will be closed from Dec. 24-26. Its drop box will be closed after midnight on Dec. 31.
