The Montgomery County R-II School District turned in a strong showing at the Northeast Regional Science Fair on March 3 at Central Methodist University. The district had six students who placed in the top three in their respective category, two students who were selected to go to the Missouri State science fair competition and one who won a cash prize.
A total of 11 students attended the fair. They were Jett Beattie, Kelsey Collins, Kirsten Collins, Mercer Cothren, Julia Elder, Avery Finke, Kyndall Groeber, Anna Kay Johnson, Jolene Meyer, Easton Schreiner and Gemma Witte.
Jett (first, robotics), Kirsten (second, robotics), Mercer (second, earth and environmental science), Julia (first, technology), Avery (third, chemistry) and Kyndall (second, biomedical sciences) were the placewinners. Julia was selected to compete in the Missouri Junior Academy of Science State Fair and Jett was picked to participate in the ISEF Missouri Science Fair. Kirsten won the $100 Lemelson Foundation Early Inventor prize for her innovation.
