Montgomery County ballots have been announced for the April 8 elections with just three contested races, according to the county’s clerk office.
There will be contested races for Middletown mayor and Wellsville Alderman I for one and two-year terms. Aaron Winter and Gary Moore will square off for the Middletown mayor race. Robert Maxwell and Richard Wilson are the candidates for the one-year Wellsville alderman I seat and Jacob Sewell and Jesse Maylee will battle for the two-year Wellsville alderman I seat.
Aaron Winter is the current Middletown mayor. Two years ago, he beat Moore by four votes (19-15) to be elected mayor.
Wilson and Maylee are the current aldermen on the City of Wellsville Board of Trustees.
Also, New Florence residents will vote on whether they city should impose a local use tax rate at the same rate as the local sales tax rate. County residents will vote on whether the Consolidated Road District #1 of Montgomery County should levy a renewal tax of 30 cents on the $100 assessed valuation for a period of four years (2026-2029) and the county should continue a countywide sales tax of one half of one percent for the purpose of the general operations that would expire in December.
There is an election for two seats of the Wellsville-Middletown R-I School District Board. Bill Wilkinson, Tyler Penn, Christopher Pritchett, Chad Schofield are the candidates for those two spots. Wilkinson is the current board president and his term expires in April.
There are uncontested races in Montgomery City, New Florence, Wellsville, Jonesburg, High Hill and Middletown.
Dan Cole and Tom Nichols are running uncontested for alderman I and alderman II, respectively, in Montgomery City.
Beth Nelson (mayor), Glenn “Crash” Bartlett (alderman I) and Deby Juntunen (alderman II) are the uncontested candidates in New Florence. Nelson has been the city’s mayor since 2023 and Bartlett and Juntunen are current aldermen.
Howard Steele and Jock Bryson are running uncontested in the mayor and the alderman II races, respectively, for Wellsville. Steele returned to the mayor’s seat in 2023. He also served as mayor from 2001-2021. Bryson is the current alderman II.
In Jonesburg, Diane Corder and Keith Farrar are running for alderman I and II, respectively. Tom Stine (mayor), Tyler King (alderman I) and Danny Angel (alderman II) are the uncontested candidates for High Hill.
Marvina Perkins and Roy Butts are running uncontested for two seats for a two-year term as Middletown alderman. Perkins and Butts are currently aldermen.
The villages of Rhineland and McKittrick have write-in ballots in which residents can write the trustees to serve for one year. Rhineland has five trustees, while McKittrick has three.
As of press time, no candidates were announced for the Bellflower and Northwest fire districts and the Rhineland Best Bottom Special Road District. The deadline for candidate filing was Jan. 28.
