Carl Ronald “Ron” Richard, 75, of Hermann died on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at the Harry S. Truman VA Hospital in Columbia, surrounded by family.

Carl Ronald Richard was born on October 30, 1946 to Charles Raymond Richard and Erma Eileen White Richard in Rock Island, Ill. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. 

Ron married Caren Sue Smith on February 15, 1969 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Montgomery City. They were married for over 53 wonderful years. 

Ron was the owner/operator of the Blaue’s Service Station in Montgomery City. He was a great mechanic and would do anything for anyone. Ron was a charter member of the Developmental Disabilities Assistance Board (DDAB) of Montgomery City. He was a very hard worker, enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and collecting toys and banks. He loved being with his family members, especially his new grandson, Evan. Ron will be missed by all his family and friends.

Ron is survived by his wife, Caren Sue Smith Richard of Hermann; son Kyel Richard and wife, Molly, of Ballwin; and grandson, Evan; sisters, Alice Fletcher of Arkansas and Edna Rigby and husband, Duane of Gainesville, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Pat Richard of Montgomery City; Carol Craven and husband, Jack, of Big Spring; Charlotte Lauer of Montgomery City; and Joan Smith of New Florence, brother-in-law, Denny Smith and wife, Rhonda, of Vandalia; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Raymond Richard and Erma Eileen White Richard; son, Carl Ryond Richard; brother, Roger Richard; and brothers-in-law, Lawrence Fletcher, Don Lauer, Don Smith, Dan Smith, Dale Smith and Dean Smith.

A celebration of life with military honors will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City. Honorary casketbearers include Robbie Boehmler, Mike White, Joe Powell, Mike Mohrman, Tom Deberry and Dan Cole.
