Matt Kenely had reason to be thrilled when Windsor Valley Roofing provided free roof work to his Wellsville home on Feb. 13.
The project was part of the Montgomery City business’ program called Roof for Heroes, which allows employees to provide roofing assistance for veterans.
“You hear about it all of the time that there are people who need help and search for it and get it,” Kenely said. “When it happens to you, it’s remarkable. I’m extremely gracious. They’re very professional, kind, helpful and informative. They reached out and they told me they’ll get to it when they can.”
The roof project lasted just two days. Windsor Valley general manager Caleb Davis said Kenely called the company to make a request in getting his roof replaced.
“He reached out to us as a regular person,” Davis said. “He was like, ‘Hey, I want my roof fixed.’ We provided him with an estimate. At the time, he shared with us that he wasn’t able to purchase a roof. At the time, a company called Hero Care out of St. Louis stepped in. They kind of brought us together.”
Windsor Valley Roofing, which is located on Second Street in Montgomery City, works with customers from Montgomery, Audrain, Callaway and Gasconade counties as well as Columbia and St. Louis. It was founded by Nathan Davis, Caleb’s father. Jacob Davis is the project manager. The company was named after Windsor Valley, which lies on the Montgomery County and Callaway County line.
“We’re taking care of disabled veterans in this area and if there are any other people who have either a small repair or they need to be more like Matt and they need a full roof replacement, we like to do something to help,” Caleb Davis said.
Davis said he hopes more veterans from the Montgomery County area will take advantage of the company’s program.
“In some capacity, we can help everybody,” he said. “Not everyone will get a free roof, but I don’t think everyone necessarily needs a free roof. A lot of roofs, you can do repairs on, maybe get them out of the hot water situation. But thinking about it, if this guy served our country and he’s back home and water is dripping over his bed or his living room, it kind of bothers me because it’s easy to fix. In a perfect world, everyone would get a new roof, but I don’t see why we can at least help free roof repairs out.”
Kenely has lived in Wellsville for four years. He served in the Navy in the early 1990s, joined the National Guard in 2003 and was in the Army from 2003-2004.
Kenely said he was just happy that Windsor Valley fixed his roof in a short amount of time.
“At the time, I was just looking for a portion of help,” he said. “Windsor Valley said they would be happy to do it and took 100 percent responsibility and helped me out and put a new roof on. I was ecstatic as there was extensive damage to the roof and to the inside of the house from leakages.”
