The Montgomery County softball team turned in a strong season in Eastern Missouri Conference play this fall, finishing fourth in the league standings at 6-3 after winning just two games last year.

The Wildcats were rewarded for their outstanding efforts in league play by having four players named to the all-conference team. Seniors Maddy Queathem and El Reagan, junior Aliviah Fischer and freshman Reese Hill were MCHS’ representatives on the all-EMO softball team, which was announced on Oct. 11.

Queathem earned all-conference honors for the fourth time as she was named on the second team. She was named first-team utility player last year and first-team infielder in 2021 and received second-team notice in her freshman year.

Queathem batted .310 with a home run and seven RBIs. She had two hits and three RBIs in the Wildcats’ 17-1 victory over Mark Twain, their first conference win of the season.

Reagan and Fischer were named to the all-conference team for the second time. Reagan was voted first-team outfielder and Fischer was selected first-team infielder.

Reagan, who was named on the second team in her sophomore year, hit .385 with 17 RBIs. She had three hits and two runs scored against Clopton on Sept. 14, had three hits with three RBIs and five runs scored against Van-Far on Sept. 19.

Fischer, who was selected first-team infielder a year ago, hit. 536 with five home runs and 36 RBIs to earn a unanimous pick to the all-EMO team. She had three hits against Mark Twain, belted two home runs against Wright City, had four doubles and three RBIs against Van-Far and had three hits with a home run against North Callaway.

Hill was named first-team pitcher after going 12-6 with 106 strikeouts and batted .529 with six home runs and 35 RBIs. She was one of four freshmen named on the all-EMO softball team.

Hill picked up the 9-8, complete-game victory in the circle against North Callaway on Sept. 21 after striking out four batters, including North Callaway’s Brianna Prosser for the final out. She also hit a solo home run in that contest.

Hill also went 4 for 4 in the Wildcats’ 7-2 win over Louisiana on Sept. 28 at home.

Besides North Callaway, Mark Twain and Louisiana, MCHS’ other conference victories were against Clopton, Van-Far and Wright City. The Wildcats lost to Silex, Bowling Green and Elsberry.

Bowling Green won the conference title with a 9-0 record. Silex and Elsberry finished in a tie for second at 7-2.
