Senior night became a memorable one for the Montgomery County softball team on Monday.

The Wildcats broke the team record for most wins of the season after coming from behind to knock off Community R-6  8-7 at Kiwanis Fields. It was MCHS’ 23rd win of the season, surpassing last year’s total of 22.

One of the seniors delivered the game-winning hit. Gracie Cobb drove home pinch-runner Sullee Fallon with a single with no outs in the bottom of the seventh.

Players Cobb, Skylar Bethmann, Hailey Meyer and Dylan Topel and manager Mackenzie Kelling were honored with their parents after the game. Cobb, Bethman, Meyer and Topel played with the Wildcats all four years.

MCHS came back from a 5-1 deficit to beat the Trojans. It tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Topel that scored Anna Klekamp all the way from first base.

Meyer led off the seventh with a single and was replaced by Falloon. After freshman Addison Cannon walked, Cobb smacked a single on a 1-2 pitch that scored Falloon from second.

The Wildcats had all nine of their players in the starting lineup getting at least one hit. All four seniors each had one hit. Klekamp and Reese Hill each had two hits.

With the victory over Community, MCHS remains undefeated at home at 9-0. It will wrap up its regular season on Monday with a pair of home games against Louisiana (3 p.m.) and Fatima (5 p.m.).

The Wildcats also pulled off their second come-from-behind win of the season. They beat North Callaway in a similar come-from-behind fashion on Sept. 25 at Kiwanis Fields. They trailed 5-1 before scoring two runs in the fifth and four in the sixth to knock off the Thunderbirds.

After losing to Elsberry on Tuesday, MCHS is 23-4. It has a road game against Owensville on Thursday.
