Six Montgomery County and two Wellsville-Middletown students spent their last day in high school on Dec. 19.
Logan Angel, Aliciya Martinez-Rodriguez, Jasmine Lansche, Ava Monsen, Garrett Weekley and Karlee Westmoreland of MCHS and Karley Arens and Indica Scott of W-M are officially done with high school after reaching the maximum amount of credit hours to graduate from their respective schools, meaning they don’t have to come back in January and take classes.
“I’ve been waiting for this day forever, so I’m ready to be done,” Angel said.
Monsen said she is ecstatic that she and her five MCHS classes wrapped up high school right before Christmas break. They will return for the school’s graduation ceremonies on May 18.
“We’ll have a lot of free time,” Monsen said.
Now that she is done with high school, Monsen will concentrate on working at the daycare center at Immaculate Conception School.
“I’m super excited,” Monsen said. “I can’t wait to start working full time.”
Angel, who currently works at Subway in Montgomery City and plans to go to nail school in the future, said one of her best highlights in high school was being part of the FCCLA group.
“I took a lot of cooking classes,” Angel said. “I like doing that. It’s probably one of my favorite classes.”
Monsen was also a member of the FCCLA group.
“I’m going to miss Mrs. (adviser Beth) Beattie and doing all of the FCCLA meetings,” Monsen said.
Martinez-Rodriguez, who became a student at the R-II School District in third grade, plans to attend cosmetology school. She said she was happy to be one of six MCHS students to finish high school early.
“I feel like we all got pretty close during these last couple of weeks,” Martinez-Rodriguez said. “We are enjoying it together.”
Weekley was pretty active with the MCHS FFA chapter all four years. Last year, he served as the group’s sentinel. He plans to attend welding school.
Arens and Scott will graduate from W-M on May 9.
