Three killed in fatal crashes on I-70

Three people were killed in two crashes on westbound Interstate I-70 on Monday in Montgomery County that happened in a span of nine minutes.

A 65-year old Wellsville male died from a two-tractor crash that occurred on the 181-mile marker, between High Hill and Jonesburg, and was reported at 1:31 p.m. Two 36-year-old residents from Kennewick, Wash., – a male and a female – died from a crash that happened on the 182-mile marker, which is also between High Hill and Jonesburg, and was reported at 1:40 p.m.

The Wellsville man was driving a 2020 Volvo Tractor Trailer when he crashed into a 2026 International Tractor Trailer, which was driven by a 63-year-old male from Magnolia, Texas.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the International Tractor Trailer was coming to a stop due to another incident ahead of the roadway. The Volvo Tractor Trailer struck the rear of the International Tractor Trailer. The Volvo Tractor Trailer traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a barrier. The International Tractor Trailer traveled off the right side of the roadway and came to a stop.

The Wellsville driver was pronounced dead at 1:59 p.m. The Texas driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to Hermann Hospital.

In the second crash, the Kennewick residents were riding a 2010 Harley-Davidson Street Glide when they struck a 2020 Freightliner Truck that was driven by a 60-year-old male from Fulton. According to the report, the truck was stopped in traffic from a crash ahead and the motorcycle struck the rear of the truck.

The Kennewick residents were pronounced dead at 2 p.m. The Fulton driver didn’t suffer any injuries.

Per the Missouri State Highway Patrol, names of the involved traffic crash and boat drowning incident reports are not released.
