Meagan Cripe is enjoying a busy senior year at Wellsville-Middletown High School, playing basketball and softball and participating in cheerleading, Scholar Bowl and choir.
She can add homecoming queen to that list as she was selected for that honor during the W-M homecoming coronation on Feb. 9 at the school’s gymnasium. Cripe received her crown from Molly Scott, who graduated last year.
“I was really trying to win since it’s my senior year,” Cripe said. “I had to step out of my comfort zone a little bit. It’s really cool to be able to win.”
The other queen candidates were freshman Jenna Collins, sophomore Lorelei Smith and junior Alyssa Beach.
Sophomore Zackery Vogel was named homecoming king. The other king candidates were freshman Gage Nichols, junior Justin Beabout and senior Aiden Beach. Vogel received his crown from Mason Guzy, who also graduated in 2023.
“Honestly, I didn’t think I was going to get called,” Vogel said. “I was very surprised. I was very happy.”
The homecoming coronation was held after the girls-boys basketball doubleheader against Bowling Green.
Vogel, who competes in cross country and track and plays the flute for the school band, said he was thrilled to be a part of this year’s homecoming court.
“They’re very enjoyable people,” Vogel said. “I like them all. They have very good sportsmanship. We were wishing each other good luck.”
Cripe said she enjoyed the school’s homecoming week, which had the theme, “The End of the Bobcat Era.” Students dressed up in pajamas and wore black and gold clothing during the week. The homecoming dance was held on Feb. 10 at the VFW Hall in Wellsville.
“I had a lot of fun this week,” Cripe said. “I had to let it sink in that this is my senior year and it’s my last homecoming. So it’s nice to spend the rest of it with my friends.”
Cripe has been with the girls basketball team since her freshman year. Her father, Todd, is the head coach. Hours before the coronation, she played in a basketball contest in which the Tigers lost 51-41 to Bowling Green in overtime. Then, she joined the cheerleading squad at the boys game.
Cripe is in her first year with the cheerleading team and has participated in track, Scholar Bowl and choir since she was a freshman. The senior said she enjoys being active.
“It’s really fun and it’s nice having that responsibility,” said Cripe, who plans to attend State Tech next year.
