More than three years ago, Carole Weeks joined the Montgomery County Clerk’s office as a part-time employee. Now, she’s the new county clerk.

Weeks was sworn in as county clerk by Associate Circuit Judge Nathan Carroz on Jan. 2 at a brief ceremony at the Montgomery County Courthouse that included 16 of her friends, family members and co-workers.

“I have a great support group,” Weeks said. “They are always there for me. Even the ones I work with, we work very well as a team.”

Weeks replaces Kathy Hancock, who retired as county clerk on Dec. 31 after five years.

“I’m excited and nervous, but I love a good challenge,” Weeks said.

Weeks started working at the county clerk’s office during the 2020 election. Before that, she worked as a nurse for 28 years and an auctioneer for eight. Weeks also worked as a disc jockey.

Weeks said the county clerk job has many duties.

“It’s a learning curve,” she said. “There is more involved in this job than the outside person can see. Every day, there are new things that come up for deadlines from the different state agencies. It’s more than just the elections. I’ve got great resources with St. Charles County. We have an association of county clerks for the state of Missouri. So we have a good network in which we contact different third-class counties and get information. To jump right into it and not know anything would be a nightmare.”

Weeks said she was thrilled that two members of the St. Charles County Election Authority – director Kurt Bahr and assistant director Amy Abert – attended her swearing-in ceremony.

“They’ve been great supporters,” Weeks said. “I would call them anytime I have a problem. I’ll stop by the St. Charles Election Authority and ask questions and follow them around their elections and learn things.”
