The Bowling Green Bobcats were too much to handle for the Montgomery County Wildcats on Sept. 22 at Jim Blacklock Field.

The Wildcats were handed their first Eastern Missouri Conference loss of the season after falling to Bowling Green 82-20 in a battle of unbeaten Eastern Missouri Conference teams. MCHS dropped to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in EMO play.

Seniors Mason Leu and Jacer Brower provided the scoring for the Wildcats. Leu scored a pair of touchdowns and Brower scored a touchdown. MCHS scored all of its points in the first half. Last year, the Wildcats lost 74-0 to Bowling Green.

The Wildcats lost to Bowling Green for the fourth meeting in a row. The 82 points allowed marked a season-high for MCHS.

The Bobcats, who reached the Class 2 semifinals last year, improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in EMO play. They led 54-14 after the first quarter and 75-20 at halftime. The first quarter lasted 49 minutes.

Drew Dalton scored four touchdowns, including a 70-yard kickoff touchdown return with just 11 seconds into the game that gave Bowling Green an 8-0 lead.

MCHS came back to tie it at 8-8 with an 84-yard touchdown catch from Leu and a two-point conversion from sophomore Chase Queathem, but that was as close as it would get for the rest of the contest.

Brower scored an 84-yard touchdown catch with 6:45 to go in the first quarter, giving him five touchdowns on the season.

Leu scored an 11-yard touchdown catch with 7:02 remaining in the second quarter. He now has six touchdowns in 2023.

The Wildcats will travel to Wright City for an EMO road game on Sept. 30. Last year, MCHS defeated Wright City 36-14 to pick up its first win of the season after losing its first five games.
