When Aaron Winter was elected the new mayor of Middletown in April, he came up with a simple goal.
“I just wanted to serve my community,” Winter said.
Winter is serving a community in which he has lived for most of his life. He graduated from Wellsville-Middletown High School in 2005 and his parents live in Middletown.
“It’s just a small and quiet community where people know everybody and help each other out,” Winter said.
Winter has been working as a UPS delivery driver for the last eight years. He is also a board member of the Middletown Fire Protection District.
Winter defeated Gary Moore by just four votes (19-15) in the Middletown mayoral election in April. Moore served four two-year terms as the town’s mayor.
“It was what the people wanted,” Winter said. “It was what the people spoke.”
Winter is part of a Middletown City Council that includes aldermen Marvina Perkins, Tristan Speagle, Jamie Shaw and Roy Butts. The next city council meeting is scheduled for July 6.
“It’s going good,” Winter said. “We’re doing the best that we can.”
