Hill, Klekamp earn all-state honors

Reese Hill and Anna Klekamp were the Montgomery County representatives on this year’s Missouri High School Fastpitch Coaches Association Class 2 all-state team, making it the third year in a row the Wildcats had a pair of all-state players.

Hill was named to the all-state team for the third year in a row, while Klekamp made her first appearance on the all-state team. Hill was named first-team all-state pitcher and Klekamp was voted first-team outfielder. Both of them are juniors.

Hill and Klekamp joined a group of MCHS all-state players that include Aliviah Fischer (2023 and 2024), Brooklynn Fischer (2021), Anna Ford (2016) and Beth Johnson (2001). Hill became the first MCHS player to be named on the all-state team three times.

Hill and Klekamp helped the Wildcats turn in their best season in program history this fall. MCHS won a program-record 28 games, shared the Eastern Missouri Conference title with Elsberry and North Callaway, captured its first district title since 2018 with a 1-0 win over Elsberry in the district finals and participated in its first Final Four, where it finished fourth.

Hill was once again solid at the plate and the circle. She batted a team-best .519 with five home runs and 21 RBIs and won 23 games and finished with 241 strikeouts.

At the plate, Hill hit safely in her first 18 games. She hit a home run and drove in three runs in the Wildcats’ season opener against St. Clair at MCHS Fall Classic on Aug. 30. She batted leadoff for most of the season.

After three years, Hill has a .535 (158 hits-295 at-bats) career batting average. She also has 574 career strikeouts, becoming the first MCHS player since Brooklynn Fischer in 2021 to hit the 500-strikeout mark.

In the circle, Hill recorded double digits in strikeouts 11 times, including a 17-strikeout effort against Hermann on Sept. 2. She also pitched one-hit shutouts against Bowling Green, Clopton and Van-Far.

Klekamp, who played center field, hit a career-best .396 with a home run and 22 RBIs at the plate. She made 36 putouts and committed just seven errors to finish with an .844 fielding percentage.

Klekamp batted .333 with 16 RBIs last year and .299 with nine RBIs the year before.

This season, Klekamp had an eight-game hitting streak. She had a pair of three-hit efforts against Canton and South Callaway.

Klekamp also had a two-hit effort in the Wildcats’ come-from-behind, 7-5 victory over Chaffee in the state quarterfinals that advanced them to the Final Four.

Hill and Klekamp were part of a junior class that included Sam Turner and Jillian Weekley. They helped the Wildcats win 68 games in three years.

Hill and Klekamp also were named to the all-EMO, all-district and all-region teams.

Megan Schmidt and Kymorie Myers of North Callaway were the other EMO players who earned all-state honors. They were on the Class 2 team.
