The Jonesburg Board of Aldermen voted unanimously to award a business license to a new garage in town during its meeting on Oct. 6.
Warrenton-based Dad’s Garage received its business license just two weeks after it started operating at 100 West Foreman Street in Jonesburg. The business, which is owned by George Mordt, offers mobile services to the Jonesburg area as well as neighboring counties such as Warren.
“I can’t tell you how many people stop by and are excited that we are here,” Mordt said. “The community has been wonderful.”
Established in 2022, Dad’s Garage has been running its business in Mordt’s truck before it moved into an empty building in Jonesburg in late September.
“I get discounted diesel fuel at the FastLane (on Jonesburg),” Mordt said. “With diesel prices being the way they are, I just so happened to see the for sale sign at the building. I said, ‘You know what, I’m going to give them a call and see what’s up. I’m glad I did.’ ”
City Administrator Cory Eye said Mordt takes time to provide outstanding service outside of his garage. He stopped by Jonesburg City Hall in August and changed oil on a car at the parking lot.
“He has a lot of good reviews,” Eye said.
Dad’s Garage is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by appointment on Saturday. It offers diagnostic services, brake services, oil changes, tire rotations, suspension repairs and tuneups.
Mordt said the business has been getting a strong turnout ever since it moved to Jonesburg.
“Every day, it’s been pretty big,” he said “(On Oct. 5), we had a couple of people. There was one guy and I’m not actually sure where he lives, but he lives right around Jonesburg. I’ve known his family for a long time. He had a tractor van and something like that and asked me to weld something for him. So I actually did it. He was like, ‘What do I owe you?’ I’m like, ‘It took me five minutes. Don’t worry about it. Just tell people we’re here and come back for something else.’ ”
Dad’s Garage’s slogan is “Just Call Dad.” Mordt said his 18-year-old son, Dylan, came up with the name of his business.
“When my oldest son was in high school, a lot of kids in Warrenton didn’t really have a lot of mechanical background,” Mordt said. “It kind of became a funny little slogan, “Just call my dad.’
“As things started to blow up later on, we had to actually come up with a name. (Dylan) said, ‘Why don’t you call it Dad’s Garage?’ I said, ‘No.’ He said, ‘Yeah, it’s catchy. Why not?’ That’s how it became that.”
