This year’s Pink Out basketball doubleheader between the Montgomery County Wildcats and the Wellsville-Middletown Tigers will be played at the Roundtree and Johnson Court at W-M High School.
The 14th annual event is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. on Dec. 20 with the girls game, followed by the boys game at approximately 7:30 p.m. The theme of the event is called, “One County, One Cause.”
All proceeds of the event go to the Helen Reagan Cancer Fund, which began in 1991 in honor of the Montgomery County resident who lost her battle with cancer. For the last 14 years, both MCHS and W-M have raised thousands of dollars to help promote cancer awareness.
“The important thing is we’re doing it for a great cause,” first-year W-M boys coach Josh Albregts said. “The great thing about that is it goes back to our community.”
Last year, the two schools raised a record $9,713, which included money from concessions, rally towels, pom poms, cookies and cotton candy.
Both schools are hosting an online auction from now until Dec. 19 at 9 p.m. Winners of the auction will be able to pick up their items at the game.
W-M set a dress schedule for students from Dec. 16-19 in honor of the Pink Out game. Students wore pajamas on Dec. 16 and jerseys on Dec. 17. They will dress in clothing from a different decade on Dec. 18 and wear pink the following day.
MCHS hosted last year’s doubleheader. The Wildcats pulled off the sweep, winning 68-41 in the girls game and 71-10 in the boys contest. The MCHS girls have won the Pink Out game 14 straight years.
The two teams will play for a Montgomery County Traveling Trophy, which goes to the winner of each game. They have been playing for a trophy since 2010.
W-M last hosted the Pink Out doubleheader in 2022.
Wellsville resident Jessica Penn will be the guest speaker between games in this year’s event.
