Why are you running and why should people vote for you?
I’m often seeing as stubborn, but I prefer to think of myself as passionate about my convictions – an education is one of them. I firmly believe that education has the power to break the cycle of poverty and empower future US citizens to make informed decisions that benefit themselves, their families, and our community. Also, we have some really fun things planned, and I want to be a part of that. That’s why I’m excited to be reelected to the school board and to continue to ensure our school provides students with a high-quality education that prepares them for a bright future.
My qualifications are:
I have a masters in early childhood special ed, I have worked with 11 superintendent and nine principles over my 30 years of educational experience. I have been on the board for 10 years and with that I have attended school board conferences every year which keeps School Board members up-to-date on current issues. I have helped to establish programs to meet the needs of our School and students such as the Buddy Pack program , Bright futures program and the Tiger Table food pantry. I volunteer many hours every year in areas such as back to school meals for teachers and preschool screenings.
What are your goals if elected?
My primary goal is to see that our school continues to maintain a safe and quality environment for our students to be successful in their academic goals.
What issues are most pressing for your constituency?
Our school district has four areas that demand equal attention. First, we must always address our financial situation, which we’ve made significant progress and since I’ve been on the board by balancing our budget and building a strong reserve. Second, we need to focus on teacher recruitment and retention, as the relationship between teachers and students is critical for academic success. Third, We must ensure a safe and well equipped learning environment that supports our teachers and provides a high-quality education. Lastly, we need students coming to school ready to learn and respecting the educational process.
