Election 2026

Meet Shannon Brock, Ward 2 candidate for Montgomery City Board of Aldermen

Posted

Name: Shannon Brock

Age: 53

Hometown: Montgomery City

Occupation: Hand papermaker

Position sought: Montgomery City Ward 2 alderman

Previous political experience: None

Why are you running and why should people vote for you?

I am running for Ward 2 Alderman because of my first hand experiences with the current Aldermen. When I had concerns about the lack of lights and safe bathrooms at a local park, I was able to go to my representative, express my concerns, and see changes thanks to them. I want to continue that advocacy and be a voice for my constituents.

What are your goals if elected?

My goals are to increase participation by the people of Montgomery City, be an advocate for the residence of Ward 2, and help facilitate the community that serves us all. We get the government we deserve. We should be able to go to our representatives and trust that they will fight for us.

What issues are most pressing for your constituency?

The lack of sidewalks are a pressing issue for Montgomery City. The work the current Aldermen have done to extend sidewalks South of town is fantastic and will greatly improve the situation. I would like to continue their good work. In the summer, many people enjoy a stroll down Sturgeon to grab a treat from Mimi's. During the week, I witness many local office workers out on a lunchtime walk for exercise and fresh air. Our local cross country and track team are often forced to run in the street due to the lack of sidewalks. This is unsafe. We should encourage healthy activities and social interactions which one does not get driving a car.

I am also mindful there are community concerns of which I am not aware. I look forward to discussing these issues with my neighbors and working to address them.
