Every year, the Montgomery County volleyball team looks forward to having its Pink Out match.
It gives the players a chance to not only wear their pink uniforms, but to help out county residents who are fighting cancer.
“Pink Out is definitely a very fun day for us all,” MCHS junior Khloe Kribbs said.
This year’s Pink Out match turned out a brilliant one for the Wildcats. MCHS cruised past the Christian Fellowship Knights 25-15, 25-20, 25-10 at Ballew & Snell Court in its final home match of the season.
The victory was definitely a confidence booster for a MCHS squad that had struggled for wins all season long. The Wildcats won just their third match of the year.
“I was very excited, since we haven’t won a lot,” MCHS sophomore Mieka Ray-Wise said. “I was very happy to beat them in three sets.”
Proceeds from the match went towards the Montgomery County Cancer Supporters. Before the match, Kribbs and junior teammate Megan Pierson gave a speech, inspiring the people who are fighting cancer to never give up.
“Megan and I were super excited to give that speech,” Kribbs said.
Then, all of the junior varsity and varsity players took a picture with their pink uniforms. The junior varsity team also won on Pink Out Night.
“We love wearing pink,” Ray-Wise said. “It’s very spontaneous from the gray and blue.”
The Wildcats came into this season with just three returning players from last year’s team that won four matches – Kribbs, Pierson and Ray-Wise. They led a team that had six players who competed in varsity for the first time.
“I’m very happy for the sophomores who pulled up for us and played well since we didn’t have as many people returning,” Ray-Wise said.
MCHS got off to a slow start, losing its first six matches before getting its first win over Bowling Green on Sept. 9. The Wildcats beat the Bobcats in five games.
“That was definitely a breath of fresh air,” Kribbs said. “It was very exciting and it gave us the confidence boost we needed at the halfway point of the season.”
It took the Wildcats almost a month to get another win. They beat Mexico in three games on the road on Oct. 2.
MCHS was 0-6-2 in its last eight matches before beating Christian Fellowship. The Wildcats came back from a 4-0 deficit in the first game to win the match.
Kribbs, sisters Mieka and Keira Ray-Wise and Pierson turned in strong performances in the victory. Kribbs had 10 kills, Mieka finished with 12 kills and 13 digs, Keira had 24 assists and Pierson recorded 18 digs.
Kribbs is the Wildcats’ leader in kills with 125 and blocks with 38. Pierson has 266 digs and Keira Ray-Wise has 214 assists. Mieka Ray-Wise has 95 kills, 165 digs and 118 assists and sophomore Dakota Shipley has 60 kills and 90 digs.
Kribbs said head coach Carli Bleyle and assistant coach Karli Holligan were helpful to the team this season. Bleyle took over head coaching duties for longtime coach Rachel Leu this year.
“They’re always there to give us advice if we need it,” Kribbs said. “We can look at them and they’ll tell us exactly what we need to do. They’ll help us in practice. They definitely push us to see our full potential there. They’re an amazing set of coaches.”
MCHS, which was scheduled to play North Callaway in the Class 2, District 6 tournament quarterfinals on Oct. 21, is guaranteed to finish with 20 or more losses for the second year in a row. The Wildcats ended their regular season at 3-24-3 after losing to Centralia in five games on Oct. 16.
Kribbs said she’s pleased with her team’s effort even though it didn’t get a lot of wins in 2025.
“Even if we are losing, we’re still staying up and enjoying what we’re doing,” Kribbs said.
