June 16 was a memorable day for the Wellsville-Middletown cheerleading team.
For the first time in program history, the Tigers earned an All-American team honor during a private Universal Cheerleaders Association cheer camp at W-M. Six cheerleaders – Jenna Collins, Legend Davis, Addison Nation, Brooke Stroup, Jade Thompson and Marli Yelton – were named All-American cheerleaders.
“It’s a great way to start the summer,” W-M coach Michelle Stroup said.
Last year, four W-M cheerleaders earned all-American individual honors – Yelton, Brooke Stroup and now-graduated Della Gosseen and Alyssa Beach.
With the Tiger cheerleaders earning all-American team honors they received invitations to perform at special events such as the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade on Dec. 7 and a parade in London, England.
“It opens the door for new opportunities for them,” Michelle Stroup said. “They get invitations to perform different big events across the country if they choose to register and pay.”
The coach said she will be reaching out to the parents of the cheerleaders to see if they are interested in having the cheerleaders go to events such as the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla.
“Any of the opportunities that they have, their families can go with them,” Stroup said. “They would have to pay also. When (my daughter) Brittany (Bishop) was in school, she went twice to the Citrus Bowl. So we’re kind of familiar with the way that it works. I never had the whole squad qualify for something like that, so it’s kind of a big deal. It’s a big deal to me.”
Abigail Rosa, who is the cheerleading coach at Central Methodist University, was the instructor of the camp.
“UCA has a lot of camp instructors,” Stroup said. “When people sign up for camps, they then get sent out. She happened to be from Missouri, so she didn’t have to travel too awfully far to come, but you never know where they’re going to come from.”
Stroup said she was pleased with her team’s work ethic at the camp.
“They did so many things that day,” she said. “She (Rosa) taught them a lot of new stunts. They picked it up. We had a good time.”
Davis, Collins, Yelton, Thompson, Nation and Brooke Stroup are the returning cheerleaders from last year’s team. Stroup is the only senior on the team and will return for her fourth year with the Tigers. Collins and Davis are juniors and Yelton, Thompson and Nation are sophomores. They will be joined by freshmen Mia Reese, Emma Null, Alexis Brennan and Ashlyn Beach for the 2025-26 school year.
“They’re going to do so many good things this year,” Michelle Stroup said. “I’m so excited.”
