Four players return from an W-M boys team that finished 7-20 last winter. They are junior Willard Shireman and sophomores Brandon Murphy, Garrett Poage and Chandler Parker. There are 11 players on the team.
The Tigers lost four players – Cooper Henderson, Gage Marshall, Jonah Slovensky and Brennan Cash – to graduation. Henderson was a two-time all-Eastern Missouri Conference performer.
Last winter, W-M surpassed its win total of two from the year before. One of the Tigers’ seven wins was a 55-46, double-overtime victory over Liberty Christian. They were eliminated by Cairo in the Class 1, District 10 semifinals.
Lasman coached the boys team for seven years before stepping down after the 2023-24 season to take over the girls coaching job, replacing Todd Cripe, who retired. During his tenure with the boys team, the Tigers won three district titles and finished fourth in the Class 1 Show-Me Showdown in 2022.
Lasman’s girls team has seven players and three of them are returning from last year. They are senior Helanea McKenzie and juniors Elly Cash and Aubrey Harmon. McKenzie is back for her fourth and final year with the Tigers.
The W-M girls finished 6-21 last winter after winning 13 games the year before. They turned in their first 20-loss season since 2019.
The girls also lost four players to graduation – Hallie Guzy, Keigan Hall, Alivia Stewart and Julia Dias. Hall was a second-team all-EMO selection last winter.
Both boys and girls teams start their season on Nov. 21 against Liberty Christian at home. The girls will play at 6 p.m., followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m.
Also, the boys and girls will play in a new tournament this year, the Madison Tournament in early January. They dropped out of the Montgomery County Invitational this year.
