W-M softball, cross country set for fall season

Posted

The Wellsville-Middletown softball and cross country teams are heading in different directions this fall.

The softball team will look to turn in a successful season with 10 returning players, while the cross country team is looking to rebuild with five new runners and a new head coach.

Seniors Brooke Stroup and Lorelei Smith, juniors Aubrey Harmon, Jenna Collins, Elly Cash and Legend Davis and sophomores Addison Nation, Tessa Freeman, Paige Brashear and Jade Thompson return from last year’s team that finished 0-17. Softball returned to W-M in 2024 after its 2023 season was canceled because the team didn’t have a full roster.

The softball team starts its season at 5 p.m. on Aug. 29 against Community R-6 on the road. Alex Thull is back for his second year as coach.

Skylar Durham takes over head coaching duties for the cross country team this year, replacing John Slovensky. His team has six runners – freshmen Silas Jones, Lucas Spiers, Charles Freie, Ezekiel Bradley and Alexis Brennan and junior Aubrey Harmon.

Last year, the Tigers had four runners, all of them were boys.

The cross country team begins its season on Sept. 8 at the Van-Far Invitational.
