The 2025 spring season was a successful one for the Wellsville-Middletown baseball and track teams.
The baseball team got back on the winning track as it picked up two wins after not winning any games the year before and the track team had three all-state medalists.
This year, the baseball team is looking to get more victories as it returns 10 players from last year, while the track team is setting its sights on getting another all-state medalist.
Senior Isaac Todd, juniors Evan Bryson, Shane Joles, Gage Nichols, Willard Shireman and Chase Mitchell, sophomores Colton Gilbert, Brandon Murphy, Chandler Parker and Royce Wilkinson are the returning players for the baseball Tigers, who lost three players to graduation.
Last year, the Tigers picked up both of their wins against Missouri Military Academy. They lost their first seven games before getting a 16-4 win over MMA, snapping a 24-game losing streak and guaranteeing them they will not finish with another winless season. W-M finished 0-16 in 2024, its first winless season in 13 years.
The Tigers’ offense improved tremendously in 2025, scoring 69 runs after finishing with just 12 runs scored the year before.
W-M begins its season on March 23 with a road game against the Community R-6 Trojans. Last year, the Tigers lost to Community 12-0 in their 2025 season opener.
W-M will play Wright City in its home opener at 4:30 p.m. on March 26. The Tigers have 10 home games this season. They will host cross-county rival Montgomery County on April 28.
Alex Thull returns for his fourth season as W-M head coach.
Julian Muller-Williams takes over head coaching duties of the track team, which starts its season on March 23 at the Van-Far Open Meet. He replaced John Slovensky, who retired after the 2024-25 school year.
Junior Elly Cash is the only returning state qualifier for the Tigers this year and is looking to return to the awards podium. She finished fourth in the 100 and sixth in the 200 at last year’s Class 1 state meet. Also in 2025, Cash had four first-place finishes and earned all-Eastern Missouri Conference awards in both the 100 and 200. She is the school’s record holder in both the 100 and 200.
Todd, Joles and juniors Aubrey Harmon and Victoria Jones are also returning athletes for the Tigers, who have 16 athletes on their roster.
