Wildcat golfer Karter Reagan sets sights on another state trip

Posted

Karter Reagan enjoyed his trip out west last year.

Sedalia, that is.

Reagan was the Montgomery County Wildcats’ lone representative at the Class 2 state tournament at the Sedalia Country Club and came up 10 places shy of getting all-state honors, placing 25th with a two-day total of 168.

“Sedalia was amazing,” Reagan said. “I would definitely go back there. I would love to play there again. It was a very nice course. The greens rolled great and the fairways were amazing.”

This spring, Reagan, a senior, will look to end his high school golf career by going south to Farmington. This year’s Class 2 tournament will be played at Bogey Creek Golf Club, which changed its name from Crown Pointe Golf Club in December.

“It will be great,” Reagan said. “I want to go back really bad because it’s over at Farmington. I want to see that course.”

Reagan leads a MCHS golf team that returns six players from last year’s squad that won 25 matches and captured an Eastern Missouri Conference title. He’s one of four seniors on the team.

“I think we’re going to be OK as a team,” Reagan said. “We might not do as good as we did last year, but I think we’ll be just fine as long as we keep playing golf.”

After two weeks, Reagan played in three matches and one tournament. He was the Wildcats’ top performer in a five-team match against South Callaway, Missouri Military Academy Wright City and Silex on March 31 at Wildcat Golf Course, shooting a five-over-40. He also shot a 45 in a seven-team match on March 24, a 50 against Wright City on March 26 and a 90 in the Fulton Tournament on March 27.

“Putting has been pretty good and the drivers have been fine,” Reagan said. “If I can get my irons going, I’ll be good.”

So far, Reagan is enjoying a successful high school golf career. In addition to his state trip, Reagan was named to the all-EMO team twice. When he was a freshman, he played with his older brother, Keaton, who was then a senior.

“I had a lot of friends in all of my years of playing,” Reagan said. “I had a bunch of fun.”

Last year, Reagan qualified for state by finishing in an eight-way tie for 13th with a 10-over-82 at the district tournament at Norwoods Golf Club in Hannibal, making it the fifth year in a row a MCHS golfer qualified for state. He shot seven pars and one birdie.

At state, Reagan finished in a four-way tie for 25th out of 92 golfers after shooting an 82 on the first day and 86 on the second. He said he wasn’t upset that he came close to getting an all-state medal.
“I’m just glad that I made it there,” Reagan said.

Also last year, Reagan shot in the 40s in eight dual matches and finished with an 83 at the Hannibal Tournament, an 86 at the EMO tournament and a 90 at the Elsberry Invitational.

Reagan, who also played basketball this winter, said he was looking forward to his last year with the golf team when practices began on March 2.

“I was very excited,” said Reagan, who plans to work after graduating from MCHS and to get a commercial driver’s license. “I liked basketball, but I was ready for it to be done. I was ready for some golf.”
