The Montgomery County football team was back at its home field on Friday after playing on the road the last three weeks.
The Wildcats definitely gave their fans something to cheer about after cruising to a 42-0 victory over the Mark Twain Tigers at Jim Blacklock Field. They won their third straight game and celebrated a victory on homecoming for the eighth straight year.
MCHS improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in Eastern Missouri Conference play. It also blanked Mark Twain for the second year in a row. Last year, the Wildcats beat the Tigers 38-0 for their first shutout win since the 2020 season.
MCHS senior Lafe McCurdy was once again the scoring machine for the Wildcats, finishing with four touchdowns. He now has 15 touchdowns this season.
Luke Farrar and Ben Cobb also scored touchdowns for MCHS, which has scored 105 points in the last two games. It defeated Van-Far 63-30 in a Week 5 game last week.
The Wildcats will travel to Bowling Green to take on the Bobcats in a Week 7 game at 7 p.m. on Oct. 10. A year ago, MCHS defeated Bowling Green twice, including in the Class 2, District 2 championship game at home.
The Bobcats are 4-2 overall and 3-1 in EMO play. They cruised past Van-Far 65-6 on Friday for their second straight win.
The Wildcats played at North Callaway, South Callaway and Van-Far in the last three weeks. They lost to North Callaway before bouncing back to beat South Callaway and Van-Far.
Mark Twain dropped to 1-5 with the loss to MCHS. The Tigers lost to the Wildcats for the fourth straight year.
McCurdy scored a five-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion with 9:08 left in the first quarter to give the Wildcats an 8-0 lead. Just six seconds into the second quarter, the senior scored a five-yard TD run and a two-point conversion to extend the lead to 16-0. His two-yard TD run with 4:13 to go in the second boosted the lead to 22-0.
McCurdy’s 36-yard TD run and a two-point conversion by junior Marshall Bishop with 2:33 left in the quarter gave the Wildcats a 30-0 lead.
Farrar’s 38-yard touchdown catch with three seconds left in the quarter gave MCHS a 36-0 halftime lead.
Cobb scored a 16-yard touchdown catch with just seven seconds left in the fourth to complete the scoring.
