Wildcats earn forfeit district quarterfinal win, advance to semifinals

The Montgomery County football team’s Class 2, District 2 quarterfinal game against Confluence Prep Charter Academy on Friday was canceled due to a forfeit by the visitors.

With the forfeit win, the Wildcats advanced to the semifinals against the Jefferson Blue Jays on Nov. 6 at Jefferson High School, located south of Festus.

MCHS is the No. 3 seed in the district tournament and its game with Confluence Prep was scheduled to be played at Jim Blacklock Field before it was called off. Confluence Prep, which is located in St. Louis, finished its season at 0-9 with the forfeit loss.

The Wildcats will take a 6-4 record into their semifinal game against Jefferson and are guaranteed to finish with their second straight winning season. A win will advance them to the district finals on Nov. 13.

Fourth-seeded Duchesne and fifth-seeded Hermann will square off in quarterfinal game at 7 p.m. Friday at Duchesne High School. The winner will play top-seeded Valle Catholic in the semifinals on Nov. 6. The winner of that contest will play either MCHS or Jefferson in the championship game.

The Wildcats are the defending district champions. Last year, they beat Bowling Green in the district finals for their first district crown since 2005.

Jefferson, the No. 2 seed, will take a 6-3 record with its contest with the Wildcats. The Blue Jays earned a quarterfinal-round bye. Last year, they finished 4-6. Their last district title was in 2020.

The Wildcats and Blue Jays will square off for the first time in the district semifinals.
