The Montgomery County football team will be looking to add district title No. 13 to its trophy case.

The Wildcats’ quest of defending their district championship begins at 7 p.m. on Friday, when they host a Class 2, District 2 quarterfinal game against the Confluence Prep Academy Charter Titans at Jim Blacklock Field. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m.

MCHS earned the No. 3 seed in the six-team district tournament that also includes Valle Catholic, Jefferson, Duchesne and Hermann. Confluence, which is located in St. Louis, is the No. 6 seed.

A win by the Wildcats will advance them to the district semifinals against second-seeded Jefferson on the road on Nov. 6. Jefferson, which is located south of Festus, drew a quarterfinal-round bye.

Valle Catholic is the top seed and also drew a quarterfinal-round bye. It will play either Duchesne or Hermann in a semifinal game on Nov. 6. Duchesne and Hermann will square off in a quarterfinal game at 7 p.m. on Friday at Duchesne.

MCHS will take a 5-4 record into its contest with Confluence Prep. The Wildcats wrapped up their regular season on Oct. 23 with a 30-16 road loss to Louisiana.

Despite the loss, they finished with a winning record in regular season play for the second year in a row. They were 7-2 in the 2025 regular season.

A year ago, the Wildcats celebrated their 12th district title and their first in 20 years after beating Bowling Green in the finals as the No. 1 seed. They were eliminated by St. Pius X in the state quarterfinals the following week.

Out of their district opponents, the Wildcats played only Hermann this year. MCHS cruised to a 36-6 win over the Bearcats in its season opener on Aug. 28 at Jim Blacklock Field.

The Wildcats earned the No. 3 seed in district play based on a point system. They had 31.19 points, while Jefferson had 45 points and Valle Catholic had close to 58.

MCHS played four home games and won three of them. The Wildcats also had home wins over Mark Twain and Wright City. They had a home loss to California in Week 2.

On Friday, MCHS will take on a Confluence Prep team that is still seeking to win its first game of the season. The Titans are 0-8.

Against Louisiana, the Wildcats scored all of their points in the third quarter. They were down 24-0 before getting a 52-yard touchdown reception by Lucas Bender and a two-point conversion by Marshall Bishop with 4:45 left in the quarter to cut the lead to 24-8.

After recovering the ball on an onside kick, MCHS got a 45-yard touchdown run by Lafe McCurdy and a two-point conversion by Jackson Benney to trim Louisiana’s lead to 24-16.

But the Bulldogs sealed the victory by getting a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

The Wildcats finished 3-3 in EMO play.
