As it approaches the halfway point of its season, the Montgomery County baseball team is off to a hot start in Eastern Missouri Conference play.
After winning 20-0 over Van-Far on April 21, the Wildcats improved to 5-0 in league games. They have outscored their conference opponents 57-8.
MCHS began its conference season on March 25 with a 15-0 win over Clopton on the road. The 15 runs marked a season high for the Wildcats.
Last year, MCHS finished 7-3 in conference play. With the win over Bowling Green, the Wildcats are the only undefeated EMO team.
The Wildcats take on defending EMO champion North Callaway in a home game on April 22. A year ago, MCHS lost 7-6 to the Thunderbirds after having a 6-3 lead.
Besides Clopton and Van-Far, the Wildcats also had conference wins over Silex on March 30, Mark Twain on April 7 and Bowling Green on April 14
MCHS has conference games against Wellsville-Middletown (April 28), Louisiana (April 30), Wright City (May 2) and Elsberry (May 5) remaining in its schedule.
The Wildcats improved to 9-5 with the win over Van-Far. The Wildcats have 10 regular season games remaining.
MCHS has won nine EMO championships. Its last title was in 2023, when it shared the league championship with Elsberry. Seven of this year’s seniors – Noah Beck, Edwin Garcia, Chase Queathem, Seth Walton, Colby Ellis, Mac Farrar and Adrian Combs -- were on that team three years ago.
