The Montgomery County Wildcats and the Wellsville-Middletown Tigers will square off in the 15th annual Pink Out basketball doubleheader on Dec. 19 at MCHS’ Ballew & Snell Court.
The event is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. with the girls game, followed by the boys game at approximately 7:30 p.m. The theme of the event is the usual – “One County, One Cause.”
All proceeds of the event go to the Helen Reagan Cancer Fund, which began in 1991 in honor of the Montgomery County resident who lost her battle with cancer. For the last 14 years, both MCHS and W-M have raised thousands of dollars to help promote cancer awareness.
In last year’s contest that was played at Wellsville-Middletown’s Roundtree and Johnson Court, the two schools raised a record $5,791.84, which included money from concessions, rally towels, pom poms, cookies and cotton candy.
The MCHS Student Council is selling Pink Out shirts. They are available at www.mcwildcats.revtrak.net.
MCHS and W-M will play for a Montgomery County Traveling Trophy, which goes to the winner of each game. They have been playing for a trophy since 2010.
The Wildcats pulled off the sweep in last year’s doubleheader, winning 42-39 in the girls game and 101-35 in the boys contest. The MCHS girls have won the Pink Out game 15 straight years, while the MCHS boys defeated W-M three years in a row.
In the girls contest, the Wildcats came back from a five-point deficit late in the fourth quarter to beat the Tigers. Trailing 39-34, the Wildcats closed the game on a 7-0 run, including a 3-pointer by Aubrey Janes with 28 seconds left that gave MCHS the 42-39 lead.
Janes, who is a junior this year, was the Wildcats’ leading scorer with 17 points. Emma Rodgers, a sophomore, scored 10 points, all of them in the second half.
In the boys contest, MCHS had almost all of its points provided by its senior class in Clayton Parker, Andrew Moore, Jay and Sean Rodgers, Tatum Wessel and Tatum Wessel.
