The Eastern Missouri Conference baseball championship trophy is back at Montgomery County High School.
With a 4-2 road win over the Elsberry Indians on May 11, the Wildcats finished in a share of the EMO title with North Callaway with a 9-1 record. It’s MCHS’ first conference title since 2023 and its 10th overall.
The baseball team is now tied with the girls track team for the third-most EMO championships at MCHS. The girls track squad won its seventh straight league title and 10th overall on May 1.
North Callaway handed the Wildcats their only conference loss on May 22, coming from behind to win 5-4.
In that contest, MCHS led 4-1 after Colby Ellis hit a first-inning grand slam before the Thunderbirds came back to score two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh.
Wright City handed North Callaway its only EMO loss of the season on March 24. The Kingdom City school rallied to win nine straight conference games.
The Wildcats won their first five conference games before losing to North Callaway. They scored in double figures in five of their league wins, including a season-high 20 against Van-Far on April 21.
Against Elsberry, MCHS came back from a 2-0, first-inning deficit to win the contest. The Wildcats scored a run in the second, two in the fifth and one in the seventh.
MCHS had six players named to the all-EMO team, more than any other school. Ellis, seniors Noah Beck and Mac Farrar and sophomore Marshall Bishop were named on the first team and seniors Chase Queathem and Seth Walton earned second-team honors.
Beck won six conference games, including the one against Elsberry. He also had a complete-game shutout victory over Bowling Green. He went 8-0 during the regular season. Beck was named to the all-conference team for the second year in a row.
Ellis hit .333 with four home runs and 24 RBIs to earn his third all-EMO award. He hit two of his home runs in conference play. He also hit a grand slam in the 15-0 win over Clopton on March 25.
Bishop was the Wildcats’ leading hitter at .532 during the regular season to receive his first all-EMO award. He hit 10 hits in conference play, including a three-double performance against Louisiana on April 30.
Farrar hit .339 with 16 RBIs to earn his second all-EMO baseball award. He had two-hit performances against Wellsville-Middletown, Van-Far and Mark Twain. He also had a victory over Van-Far on the mound.
Queathem was named to the all-EMO team for the second straight year after hitting .306 with two home runs and 15 RBIs. He hit a home run against Van-Far.
Walton was selected to the all-EMO squad for the first time after batting .338 with a pair of home runs and 20 RBIs. He turned in a strong effort in the Wildcats’ 8-7 win over Silex, hitting a two-run homer in the sixth, driving in four runs and getting the save in relief.
