Montgomery County residents will get an opportunity to burn off some pounds from the Thanksgiving dinner as well as help out the Montgomery County Senior Center in the morning of Nov. 29. 

Amazon is finalizing plans for a next-generation data center to be located in Montgomery County. The project is one of two proposed data center projects planned in Montgomery County, officials confirmed Friday.

Montgomery County officials confirmed on Nov. 21 that an administrative review has been completed on two proposed data center projects that are under consideration. The separate projects are proposed near the northeast area of the Interstate 70 and Highway 19 interchange outside of New Florence and south of I-70 east of the city.

Dear editor, As we approach Thanksgiving Day on November 27, let us remember that first Thanksgiving Day when the Pilgrims and Indians came together to enjoy a great Thanksgiving feast. The winter before had been so hard on the pilgrims, with many of them not even surviving. Signs indicating a weight limit changes for three bridges in Montgomery County have been installed at the following locations: Route K over the Loutre River:  20 tons for single-unit vehicles and 35 tons for combination tractor-trailers.  This bridge, built in 1960, is scheduled to be replaced next year.

If you are amused by Missouri politics, there are plenty of reasons to sit up and take notice. A new lawsuit has been filed in Cole County challenging the ballot summary for a proposed constitutional amendment that would change how citizen-led initiative petitions are approved in Missouri. The proposed amendment, approved by lawmakers earlier in the year, will appear on the statewide ballot in 2026 unless the courts direct otherwise. The Supreme Court could ultimately determine the final language voters see on the ballot.

The Historical and Preservation Society of Wellsville is working with Wreaths Across America to honor the veterans interned in the Wellsville Cemetery. 

The Wellsville-Middletown FFA chapter held a Friendsgiving at the ag room on Nov. 13 with a meal that included ham, green beans, macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes with gravy. State FFA officers Sophia Geppert – a student from the University of Missouri – and Abigayle Lett, a student from the University of Central Missouri – were special guests of the event.

Patti Montalbano of Montgomery County High School and Debbie Brower and Diane Derocher of Montgomery City Elementary School were named recipients of the R-II Wildcat Award for September 2025.  They’re the individuals who truly have been the differences through their dedication, compassion and unwavering commitment to the students and community.

Montgomery County residents plan to hold a rally on Nov. 29 on the north end of Montgomery City to stand up for the issues the county – as well as the United States – have been facing for the last several months.

The Montgomery County R-II School District had 15 teachers who were awarded mini grants for their projects that will help their children learn in the classroom. 

For 10 years, Ian Richardson has done military reenactments, showing displays on old military memorabilia and explaining the history of them. On Nov. 12, the St. Louis resident did a military display during a Veterans Day presentation at Montgomery County Middle School while wearing his Army uniform. He was invited by his friend Cory Orr, who teaches eighth-grade social studies at MCMS, to come to the event.

I have been giving thought to how natural systems can be taken for granted. And it is not until we stop to consider this ecosystem until we appreciate what we have.

Alexa Groeber enjoyed a memorable weekend at the FFA National Convention in Indianapolis on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. In a span of 24 hours, the Montgomery County graduate was on the stage as a national finalist for the environmental science and national resources agricultural proficiency award and earned her American Degree, making it a great ending to a FFA career that started when she was a freshman. She later hung up her FFA jacket.

Missouri's hills might not be alive with the sound of music, but they soon will transition into a kaleidoscope of color. The foliage of trees, shrubs and vines is about to burst into its full glory.
