Ten years ago, Corryn Weller ended her career with the Montgomery County softball team as the all-time strikeout leader with 721.
On Sept. 29, another member of the Hill family became the queen of the circle for the Wildcats. After striking out Wellsville-Middletown’s Jade Thompson in the top of the first inning, senior Reese Hill moved up to the top spot in the strikeouts with 722, breaking her sister’s all-time mark.
Afterwards, Weller embraced her sister and held up a sign with Hill’s major accomplishment.
“It was nice,” Weller said. “It was good to see her do it.”
Hill needed just two strikeouts to break the all-time mark. Both came in the top of the first inning. The senior struck out Emma Null to tie the record, then fanned Thompson to break it. Hill was relieved by freshman Chloe Conder and played shortstop for the rest of the game.
Weller, who graduated from MCHS in 2017, finished with 212 strikeouts in her senior year. She went on to play softball for two more years at Jefferson College.
Weller said she has been training her younger sister how to pitch for many years.
“She’s been working on pitching since she was 4 or 5,” Weller said. “She watched me when I started softball the year she was born.”
Hill is already enjoying an outstanding high school softball career that included three all-state awards. With the win over W-M, Hill improved to 10-3 with 148 strikeouts in the circle. At the plate, she’s hitting a team-best .472 with three home runs and 14 RBIs.
Hill is also MCHS’ all-time hits leader with 183. On Sept. 22, she recorded her 176th hit against Van-Far, breaking the old mark of 175 that was set by Aliviah Fischer, who graduated from MCHS in 2025 and is now playing softball at Missouri Baptist University.
Weller said she is proud of her younger sister for accomplishing so many milestones in her high school career. HIll plans to continue her softball career at Jacksonville State University next year.
“It’s pretty cool,” she said.
Weller currently lives in Ellisville as a stay-at-home mom. She said she sees her sister play at least twice a week.
“I’m trying to watch her play as much as possible for her senior year,” Weller said.
Hill came into this season with 574 strikeouts. A year ago, she joined her sister and 2022 graduate Brooklynn Fischer in a group of pitchers who have 500 strikeouts or more.
Hill said she was thrilled to become the all-time strikeout leader in her senior year.
“Coming in as a freshman, I wasn’t really a pitcher,” Hill said. “I played middle infield my whole life, so I had to step up into the position and work at it. But I guess the work paid off because I’m pretty good at it. I didn’t really think that I was ever going to beat the record until last year, when I hit the 500 strikeout mark. I was like, ‘Maybe I’ll have to go for it.’”
Hill was also thrilled that her team knocked off its cross-county rivals. The Wildcats cruised to a 16-0 win over the Tigers in three innings. MCHS scored 10 runs in the first and six in the second.
“We definitely knew this is not a game that you can take lightly,” Hill said. “You obviously know that you’re going to beat them, but you still have to go in and try and do your best. I think we did that.”
Hill finished in double digits in strikeouts 11 times this season. She fanned a season-high 16 against Clopton on Sept. 17.
Hill also threw a perfect game in the Wildcats’ 10-0 win over Van-Far on Sept. 22.
