Seedings announced for MCHS tournament

Brackets in both boys and girls divisions of the Montgomery County Invitational Basketball Tournament were released on Nov. 11.

Montgomery County earned the No. 1 seed in the girls division for the second year in a row. MCHS is the No. 2 seed in the boys division and Wellsville-Middletown is seeded third and eighth, respectively, in the girls and boys divisions.

The girls tournament begins on Nov. 27. Consolation and championship semifinals will be played on Nov. 29, the consolation and seventh-place games will be played on Dec. 1 and the championship and third-place games will be played on Dec. 2.

The boys tournament will start on Nov. 28. Consolation and championship semifinals will be played on Nov. 30, the consolation and seventh-place games will be played on Dec. 1 and the championship and third-place games are scheduled for Dec. 2.

The MCHS girls will start tournament play at 6 p.m. on Nov. 27 against eighth-seeded Bowling Green in a first-round game at Ballew & Snell Court. Last year, the Wildcats lost 32-31 to Hermann in the championship game to finish second in the tournament for the second straight year.

The MCHS boys will begin their tournament play at 6 p.m. on Nov. 28 against New Haven in a first-round matchup at Ballew & Snell Court. Last year, the Wildcats placed fourth after falling to Hermann 58-45 in the third-place game.

The W-M girls will take on sixth-seeded Fulton at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 27 in a first-round game at the Montgomery County Middle School gymnasium. A year ago, the Tigers placed fourth, their highest finish in the Montgomery County tournament since 1989. They lost to New Haven in the third-place game.

The W-M boys will play top-seeded Mexico at 6 p.m. on Nov. 28 in a first-round game at the MCMS gym. The Tigers finished seventh at the Montgomery County tournament in each of the last two years. They beat New Haven in the 2022 seventh-place game.
