After three weeks, Reese Hill continues to be a home run machine for the Montgomery County softball team.
The Montgomery County sophomore tied a school record for most homers in a season after hitting two out of the park in her team’s 14-6 victory over the Clopton Hawks in an Eastern Missouri Conference game on Sept. 19 at Eolia City Park. She now has eight homers on the season.
Hill’s strong effort helped the Wildcats improve to 4-1 in EMO play. MCHS is in a three-way tie for second place with Louisiana and North Callaway. Elsberry is in first at 5-0.
The Wildcats are scheduled play a road game against North Callaway at the Auxvasse Softball Fields on Sept. 26. MCHS knocked off the Thunderbirds 9-8 in last year's meeting at Kiwanis Fields.
MCHS also has Wellsville-Middletown (Oct. 1), Van-Far (Oct. 2), Louisiana (Oct. 3) and Elsberry (Oct. 8) remaining in its conference schedule.
MCHS won its first three conference games before losing to Bowling Green 11-0 on Sept. 17 at Kiwanis Fields. On Sept. 19, the Wildcats bounced back from the loss to the Bobcats by scoring in double digits for the fifth time this season.
Hill finished 5 for 5 with five RBIs and four runs scored against the Hawks. After five conference games, Hill is hitting .789 (15 for 19) with six home runs and 15 RBIs. She also had a two home run effort against Mark Twain on Sept. 10 at Kiwanis Fields.
With the two home runs against Clopton, Hill surpassed her home run total of six from the 2023 season. She hit a two-run homer in the first and another two-run homer in the sixth, both going over the center field fence.
Also for the Wildcats, senior Aliviah Fischer went 3 for 5 with four RBIs. She is hitting .764 (13 for 17) after five conference games.
Sophomore Jillian Weekley went 3 for 4 with five runs scored and was the winning pitcher. Sophomore Anna Klekamp had two hits and scored two runs.
MCHS is looking to finish with its second straight winning season in conference play. Last year, the Wildcats finished 6-3 in EMO contests.
The win over Clopton snapped a three-game losing streak for the Wildcats, who were coming off a 1-3 showing at the Take the Lake Softball Tournament on Sept. 13-14 at the Ballparks National, a complex located about 30 miles outside the Lake of the Ozarks in Macks Creek.
MCHS took a 9-4 record into its home contest with Van-Far.
