The Montgomery County girls basketball team celebrated its first win at Ballew & Snell Court in the 2025-26 season after cruising past the New Haven Shamrocks 59-36 on Dec. 11. 

The Montgomery County Wildcats and the Wellsville-Middletown Tigers will square off in the 15th annual Pink Out basketball doubleheader on Dec. 19 at MCHS’ Ballew & Snell Court.

Three weeks ago, Adrian Combs wrapped up an outstanding season as quarterback of the Montgomery County football team, helping the Wildcats win nine games and capture a district title.

Aubrey Janes and Emma Rodgers were the Montgomery County Wildcats’ dynamic duo at the Montgomery County Invitational Tournament. When Steve Lasman was offered to head both Wellsville-Middletown boys and girls basketball teams earlier in the school year, he didn’t waste any time accepting it.

Six players from the Montgomery County softball team were named to the Class 2, District 2 softball team. They were seniors Gracie Cobb and Dylan Topel and juniors Reese Hill, Anna Klekamp, Sam Turner and Jillian Weekley.

With five returning players, the Montgomery County girls basketball team is setting its sights on finishing with another winning record this winter. Juniors Aubrey Janes, Kaylee Daume and Reaghan Hemeyer and sophomore Emma Rodgers and Addie Schroer are back from last year’s team that finished 15-12, its eighth straight winning season.

The Montgomery County boys basketball team will look to finish with another successful season this winter. This time, the Wildcats have to do it with a new coach. Dustin Figg takes over head coaching duties for the MCHS boys for the 2025-26 season, replacing Scott Kroeger, who is now the head boys basketball coach at St. Charles West after heading the MCHS program for seven years. Figg worked as assistant at MCHS for the last three years before being promoted.

The Wellsville-Middletown girls and boys basketball teams hope to get back to their winning ways this winter as Steve Lasman takes over head coaching duties for both teams. Lasman returns for his second stint as boys basketball coach and his second season as girls basketball coach. He replaces Josh Albregts as boys coach and will be assisted by Layton Maskey, a 2021 W-M graduate.

Two months ago, the Montgomery County football team was off to a slow start, going 1-2 after losing 44-16 to North Callaway at its home field. Now, the Wildcats are district champions.  MCHS ended a 20-year district championship drought after cruising to a 42-6 win over the Bowling Green Bobcats in a Class 2, District 2 championship game on Nov. 14 at Jim Blacklock Field. The Wildcats won their 12th district title in program history and their first since 2005.

The Montgomery County football team had nine players named to the 2025 all-Eastern Missouri Conference team, which was released on Nov. 4.
